What's Happening?

Planning for the STACCA conference is underway. The dates are April 27 & 28, 2001. It will be held at the Live Oak Civic Center. Watch the newsletter for more information. We will get this info out to you as soon as it becomes available! We are going to have the registration form sent to each of you as soon as possible. Conference participants should be able to begin pre-registration by January, 2001. Watch YOUR fourth quarter newsletter for registration forms.

We are still working on the web page. There are some technical difficulties, but please be patient with us.

Our last STACCA Board Meeting was September 19, 2000. The one in July was canceled. You are welcome to attend any STACCA board meeting.
The next scheduled board meeting is October 5, 2000 in Universal City.

Presidential Ponderings

Last month I scheduled an overnight trip out of town to attend a committee meeting. I called ahead to book a hotel room, but upon arrival at the hotel, I was informed that the form I had been using to claim exemption from Texas Hotel Occupancy Tax (form 01-339) was no longer valid. The hotel clerk stated that the State made THEM pay the tax if they accepted the old form. I asked the clerk if they had a copy of the new form and he did not have one. Once I returned, I discussed this with my boss, and we began to research it. We DID find the correct form. The correct form number is 12-302 and is available off the Internet at the following web address:

http://www.window.state.tx.us/taxinfo/taxforms/12-302.pdf

I thought I would put this in the newsletter to let you all know, since a lot of us probably use this form when traveling.

Board Notes...

There were several things discussed at our last STACCA board meeting.

1. The Conference date for the 2001 has been set for April ,2001. Planning for the 2001 conference was discussed.
2. The board participated in a Conference debriefing. All those evaluation forms you all filled out at the 2000 conference were invaluable "tools" for your board to make the 2001 conference EVEN better. We heard you!
3. A CE committee was appointed to review CE applications that are out of the ordinary. On that committee are Leslie Kocurek and Triple Kocurek.
4. The board has agreed to keep a generous supply of patches on hand. We have a few patch orders to fill from the conference, and we haven't forgotten you!
5. NACA membership was approved as a result of the ballots that were mailed.
6. Future conference locations for the next five years were discussed.
7. A model shelter committee was appointed, consisting of Dr. Tull, Cheryl Krueger, Richard Gould, Steve McKin, and Chris Mingo.

Your Town ?

If you think your town would be interested in hosting upcoming conferences, PLEASE let us know. Your board is in the process of researching towns for upcoming conferences for the next FIVE years. Please email us at swtacca@yahoo.com , or contact the STACCA office if you have an interest in hosting a conference!

Model Shelters

Richard Gould, Chris Mingo, Steve McKin, Dr. Tull, and Cheryl Krueger are on the committee to develop an application for model shelters. The plan is to develop the application and also incorporate different model shelter levels. The meetings are open to membership. For information on meeting times, please contact Cheryl Krueger at (830) 629-5287.

Coming Soon?

There is a possibility that a CET training class will be coming soon. Watch for information from TDH for details. Every effort is being made to make this happen!

Check Up From the Neck Up

"The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company... a church... a home. The remarkable thing is - we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change the past.... we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude....I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it."
~Charles Swindoll~
